What this policy covers
This policy covers personal information collected through humancenteredholdings.com and any subdomains we operate at humancenteredholdings.com. It does not cover:
- Third-party websites or services we link to. Those have their own privacy policies.
- Personal information we receive in other contexts (for example, in a contract negotiation, an investor due diligence process, or a private business meeting). Those are governed by the specific agreement or context in which the information was provided.
What we collect, and why
We collect three categories of information.
1. Information you give us directly
When you fill out the contact form, send us an email, or otherwise reach out, we collect what you choose to share with us, which typically includes:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your organization (optional)
- Inquiry type
- The content of your message
Purpose. To read your message, respond to it, and follow up if a conversation continues.
Legal basis (for visitors in the EU/UK). Article 6(1)(b) (steps taken at your request prior to entering a contract) and Article 6(1)(f) (our legitimate interest in maintaining and developing business relationships).
2. Information collected automatically when you visit the Site
When you load a page on the Site, our server and content delivery network automatically receive:
- Your IP address
- Your browser type, language, and operating system
- The page you requested and the page that referred you (if any)
- The date and time of the request
This is the standard set of information any web server receives. We use it to run the Site, defend against abuse, diagnose problems, and produce aggregate, non-identifying statistics about Site usage. We do not use this information to build advertising profiles.
Legal basis (EU/UK). Article 6(1)(f), our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functional website.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a minimal set of cookies. The current list is:
- Strictly necessary cookies. Required for the Site to function (for example, to remember your cookie preferences). These do not require consent.
- Analytics cookies. If we use a privacy-respecting analytics tool (such as Plausible, Fathom, or a self-hosted equivalent), it counts visits in aggregate without setting persistent identifiers, without tracking you across sites, and without selling data. If we ever deploy an analytics tool that uses persistent identifiers, we will surface a consent banner first and update this policy.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies. We do not allow third-party advertising trackers on the Site. We do not participate in cross-site behavioral advertising.
You can disable cookies in your browser. The Site will continue to function.
What we do not collect
We do not knowingly collect:
- Payment information. The Site does not process payments.
- Login credentials. The Site does not require an account.
- User-generated content. The Site does not host comments, forums, or uploads.
- Information about children. The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, write to privacy@humancenteredholdings.com and we will delete it.
- Sensitive personal information as defined under CCPA/CPRA (such as government identifiers, precise geolocation, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, biometric data, health information, or sex life information). If a visitor volunteers such information in the body of a message, we treat it as ordinary personal information and apply this policy to it.
How we use what we collect
We use personal information only for these purposes:
- To respond to messages and inquiries.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site.
- To send transactional communications (for example, a reply to your message, or a confirmation of a meeting you scheduled with us). We do not send marketing email from the Site.
- To comply with legal obligations.
- To protect our rights, property, and operations, and those of our partners and visitors, in good faith and proportionate ways.
We do not:
- Sell personal information.
- Share personal information with third-party advertisers or data brokers.
- Use personal information to train artificial intelligence models.
- Make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only in these limited circumstances.
Service providers
We work with a small number of vendors who help us operate the Site and our business. Each is bound by a written contract that limits their use of personal information to providing the service we engaged them for. The current categories are:
- Web hosting and content delivery. To serve the Site reliably.
- Email and form processing. To receive and route messages submitted through the contact form.
- Productivity tools. Cloud-based document and collaboration tools used internally.
- Professional advisors. Legal, accounting, tax, and similar professional service providers, bound by professional duties of confidentiality.
A current list of categories is maintained internally and available on written request to privacy@humancenteredholdings.com.
Legal and protective disclosures
We may disclose personal information when we believe in good faith it is necessary to:
- Comply with a valid legal process (subpoena, court order, or equivalent).
- Enforce our Terms of Use or other agreements.
- Detect, prevent, or respond to fraud, security incidents, or other unlawful activity.
- Protect the rights, safety, or property of HCH, our visitors, our partners, or the public.
Where we are legally permitted to do so, we will attempt to give you notice before producing your information in response to a third-party legal request.
Corporate transactions
If HCH is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections and to this policy as it stood at the time of collection. We will post notice on this page if such a transfer takes place.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, plus any additional period required or permitted by law.
- Contact form messages and email correspondence: retained for up to 24 months after the last substantive contact, unless a longer period is required for legal, contractual, audit, or recordkeeping reasons.
- Server logs: retained for up to 90 days.
- Analytics aggregates: retained indefinitely in non-identifying form.
At the end of the retention period, information is deleted, anonymized, or archived under controls that prevent further active use.
Your rights
Visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom
You have the following rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR:
- The right to access the personal information we hold about you.
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- The right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") in defined circumstances.
- The right to restrict or object to certain processing.
- The right to data portability for information you have provided to us.
- The right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
- The right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@humancenteredholdings.com. We will respond within 30 days (extendable by an additional 60 days where the request is complex, with notice).
We do not currently rely on transfers under Article 49 of the GDPR for routine processing. Where we engage US-based service providers, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Visitors in California
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act) gives you:
- The right to know what personal information we have collected, used, disclosed, and shared.
- The right to delete personal information we have collected from you, with limited exceptions.
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
- The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information in the categories defined under CCPA/CPRA.
- The right not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@humancenteredholdings.com.
Visitors elsewhere in the United States
Several US states (including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and Montana) have enacted comprehensive privacy laws granting rights similar to those described above. We honor these rights for residents of those states. Submit any request to privacy@humancenteredholdings.com and identify the state of residence.
Authorized agents
You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We will require written documentation that the agent is authorized to act for you, and we may verify the request directly with you.
How we protect personal information
We apply reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, and destruction. These include:
- Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS across the entire Site).
- Access controls limiting who at HCH can view personal information.
- Vendor due diligence on service providers handling personal information.
- Regular reviews of our data practices.
No method of transmission or storage is 100 percent secure. If we become aware of a security incident affecting personal information, we will notify affected individuals and regulators as required by law.
International transfers
HCH is based in the United States. If you contact us from outside the United States, your personal information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent legal mechanisms to protect the information during transfer.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no consensus industry standard for how a website should respond. Because we do not engage in cross-site tracking, the question is largely moot on the Site. We do not change our behavior in response to a DNT signal.
Links to other websites
The Site links to third-party websites (for example, articles in the Journal, partner organizations, social media profiles). When you click an external link, the destination site's privacy practices apply, not ours. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party site before providing personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top.
- Post the new version on this page.
- For material changes, post a notice on the Site for at least 30 days and, where we have your email address and a continuing relationship, notify you by email.
If a change is material and would affect personal information already collected from you, we will obtain consent where required by law.
